HOUSE!!!

HOUSE!!!

HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE

(House a day later than expected, because the bank is stupid. This has thrown off my planned thing-hauling schedule, but never mind. I have a revised thing-hauling schedule which will work just fine, and should still result in most boxes being out of the way by the time we get the truck on Saturday so we can focus on furniture then.)

HOUSE!

HOUSE!

HOUSE!

Clearly, I haven't been following LJ enough. My first thought was "Did something awesome happen on the TV series?"

This is much better than that. (-:

Okay I will explain it in very short words -- they're all five letters long.

A bit west of where we are now, so still in Mountain View, familiar neighborhood, biking distance from all that is good and wonderful, handy to the little grocery and the big park, all kinds of good stuff.

And no homeowner's agreements, so I'm thinking of getting some chickens.

Sounds like we're still neighbors, then. :)

Yes, I think they are moving half of the distance between their current place and yours.

If you get chickens, Chris will be horribly jealous. Though we could probably get away with it if we cleared it with our neighbors first.

The Austin Municipal Code does not appear to have a with-permission exemption from its 50-feet-from-other-people rule. However, that rule only seems to apply if there are two chickens, so one is presumably legal wherever.

We have homeowner's association, so it's not legal at all. By "get away with it", I meant "hide from the HOA". ;)

Looks like we may have to get signed permission letters from the neighbors. Chickens have to be at least 25 feet from any residence from which one does not have a signed letter, and while there are parts of the backyard that are 25 feet from all the neighbors at once (I think, I haven't measured yet), they are not the best parts for keeping chickens in. I suppose checking with the neighbors first would be polite anyway.

I met one of them today (a neighbor, not a chicken). He seems like a nice fellow -- told me he had three kids but they were very quiet. I said we were probably louder than they were, then. They seem to play in the front yard a lot. Perhaps they will play basketball with me.
